The age of your winchester model 1873 is considerable.The rifle was made by winchester in the year 1885.that is 126 years ago.As to value I would have it looked at by a member of the winchester collectors assoc.or a qualified gun collector who specializes in winchesters.
it does not open. you load the powder and round ball down the front of the cylinder openings and ram the balls down with the ramer under the barrel. then caps are place over the rear nipples.................
