I bought a Baldwin piano some years ago. I had it tuned and some strings replaced. I found out the piano was not a Baldwin but a Hamilton (number 368134). No where on the piano did it state (Hamilton). WHY? What was the difference?
207 years

In dating a Baldwin by serial number, knowing whether it is an upright or grand piano is important, as each of these was serialized separately. In this case, a baby grand with serial 18987 would have been built in 1912.
Assuming this is an upright (vertical) piano, the serial 261236 would belong to a unit built sometime in 1936. If the serial number belongs to a grand instead, it would have been built in 1984.

Paste the following website into your browser. As of today (03/13/09), it says they are updating their database, but I have checked for Baldwin pianos (They were the one's that made Hamilton Piano's) and you could simply plug in your serial number and it would give you at LEAST a 10 year range. Hope this helps. http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Divisions/Baldwin/Conservatory/Age%20of%20Your%20Piano/
