The cost will depend on what guitar it is and what colour/pattern you want on your guitar It can vary to anything between the cost of sandpaper and a couple cans of gloss paint ($20) to a final cost that will likely be several times the original value of the guitar.

Sandpaper is cheap. Even on a full-scale project, the cost shouldn't exceed more than about 20 dollars. (It's the sanding itself that's costly: in time spent. Expect to spend a couple weeks if you want to get down to the wood.)

Paint is not cheap. If you sand down to the wood, then you're going to have to re-fill the grain when you start priming. This will take a very, very long time (involving laying coats, sanding, laying coats, sanding, etc). Expect to go through several cans of primer (if you're using aerosol), which equals out to upwards of over a quart. Each 12oz can will cost about $6 or more.

If you're consistently sanding after every cycle, you should be able to still keep the thickness down. You want to fill the grain, not give the guitar an inch-thick coat of armor. A thinner overall coat of paint on the guitar will translate to slightly better tonal quality.

But we haven't even got to the actual paint yet. If you want a mediocre finish, you can stick with aerosol and put down a can or three's worth of metallic or flat colored paint. That should bring the price up another 15-20 on top of everything else. Then you need to put a lacquer on top of everything (It's got to be lacquer. A regular clear coat may not be tough enough for a guitar). You want to put a lot on, but carefully of course. There's another 20 or more dollars. If you want it done right, you'll find someone who has professional painting equipment. You'll use a water-based primer/sealer, so you can use airbrush paints that allow you to do things like layering transparent colors over a aluminum metallic base and what-not. Then a high-end lacquer can seal everything up. All that just made the price of paint jump up to anywhere between a hundred and several hundred dollars (more if you have to hire someone to do all this for you).

So! Yeah. Not so simple a question to answer.

Crappy job: $30 Mediocre job: $70 - 100 Doin' it right: $150 - (hundreds or thousands if professionally done).

1) Remove all pickups, pick-guards, knobs, machine heads etc. and detatch the neck from the body (where possible)

To remove the pickups you will need to solder the wires off the knobs- these will have tp be replaced later so take a photo/ draw diagrams so you will know where they need to go back

2) sand down eveywhere you will be painting. If you have an electric sander great but if not this will take you a long time. Many people say that you need to remove all the paint from the layer below until you rach the bare wood but i have never found this necesary. Just sand down until you have some texture on the guitar so the finish is not shiny

3) Spray the guitar the desired colour using spray paint. To get the best finish keep the can at least 60cm away from the guitar and spray in shory bursts in a sideways motion, covering a whole strip across the body.

4) allow to dry and repaint.

5) re-attaxh everything you removed

6) you're good to go!

It depends on the guitar your buying.. if your just starting out on playing the guitar it could cost you a $100-$200 ,like squiers, or Yamaha (depended on the model and all that) at the least for a decent one. More expensive Guitars would be from a brand like Gibson, Paul Reed Smith or Fender that can go from anything from $400 to 1,000s of dollars.

You could paint a guitar, I recommend you take it to someone who knows how, make sure they scrape the existing finish off the guitar first, remove the strings, and possibly the neck, etc. don't try to do it yourself or it would just be a huge waste of money.

Heavy paint can affect the sound of an acoustic guitar. On an Electric Guitar it is less likely to change the sound, as long as you don't affect the pickups and strings, bridge, nut or saddle. It is not a good idea to paint the fret board, they are typically oiled woods and won't hold the paint.

Can you spray paint an electric bass guitar?

It depends on what spraypaint you use. You have to use a special guitar paint. But it's not safe to use regular paint.

How do you make your guitar pink?

Dip it in pink paint. // Depending on how professional of a look you are going for, you can either buy pink spray-paint (or some other type of paint) and paint it yourself, or you can turn it into a guitar shop and ask them to give you a custom design. Be aware though, of the fact that you have to remove all the electrical components of the guitar (if it is an electric or semi-acoustic guitar) before re-painting it in the colour of your choice. It is only the so-called 'body' of the guitar that is to be re-painted! Another way is that, before you buy a guitar, you could try and speak to the guitar makers. More times than not, you are able to close a deal in which you (for an extra sum of money) receive your guitar in whatever design you favor.
