The Sun is constantly changing it's state as it converts hydrogen into energy. The Sun will stay on the main sequence for about another 4.5 billion years. After that it will expand into a red giant.

The sun will continue as an average sized yellow star for another four billion years, after which it will gradually swell into a red giant over the course of about a hundred million years. Then it will collapse into a white dwarf, continuing to burn another three to five billion years before gradually fading out.

Our sun is believed to have a lifespan of about 10 billion years as a main sequence star, and to be about halfway through that lifespan at the moment. In about 3.5-4 billion years, the sun will start to expand and cool somewhat as it approaches the end of it's ability to convert hydrogen, as it used up the last of it's hydrogen. Earth will have become uninhabitable well before this point, at least 500,000 years before, in the view of most astronomers. When fusion stops in the sun's core, it will collapse inward on itself, while blowing off the outer shell It will then drop from the main sequence listing, and become a "white dwarf".

Most astronomers think the sun will last another 3-6 billion years in its current form. After that it won't stop existing, it'll balloon into a red giant for a while and then contract into a white dwarf.

The Sun has existed for approx 4.5 billion years. It's fueled by hydrogen nuclei being combined to form helium under tremendous heat and pressure. The newly created helium particle is about 7% less massive than the hydrogen used to create it, and the excess is what generates the heat and light essential to life on Earth. The Sun has enough hydrogen fuel to continue this process for approx. another 5 billion years, but it's not infinite and will run out. When this happens, it will start to convert helium into heavier elements, expanding in the process to become a Red Giant. It will absorb the innermost planets (including Earth), and will remain in this state for about 1 billion years. After this it will collapse in on itself to quickly (in astronomical terms) end it's existence as a White Dwarf. A trillion years after this, it will have totally lost all remaining heat, and be as cold as deepest space.

As of now, the Sun has been in existence for around 4.57 billion years. In all, it will spend approximately 10 billion yearsas a main-sequence star, so over 5 billion more years. At that point, it will enter a red giant phase. For several billion more years, it will slowly cool as a white dwarf before disappearing.

The Sun will continue to shine (converting hydrogen to helium) for approximately 5 billion years. The Sun will at this point expand into a Red Giant and engulf the Earth before dying completely.

The sun is not really alive, but it is active, meaning that hydrogen atoms undergo fusion at the core, which produces huge amounts of energy. The sun is a huge mass of mostly hydrogen, the hydrogen is fuel for the sun to burn through this process. There is enough hydrogen for the sun to be active in this way for 10 billion years.

We predict the sun will keep swelling until it collapses within 7 billion years.

How much longer will mars exist?

Mars will continue to exist, just like the Earth, for several more billion years until our sun runs out of fuel and begins to expand. At some point it will destroy the planets either by engulfing them or when the sun explodes in a nova.

What if the sun did not produce light and heat?

The sun is essential to life on this planet, so if the sun was not producing light/heat - life on this planet would no longer exist.
