Most nuclear power stations in the U.Ss. are the Pressurised Water type (PWR) which were developed by General Electric and by Westinghouse. The same type of reactor, on a smaller scale, is used in submarines and some large surface naval vessels. There are a number of nuclear weapons in the U.S. stockpile.
in 2006, Nuclear power produced about 787.2 billion KW hours, roughly 20% of the US demand
About 20 percent of total electricity production is nuclear in the US
At present there are 104 reactors producing 20 percent of the total electricity generation. So if you wanted to totally power the US by nuclear plants, you would need five times as many.
About 19 percent of electricity
You have to have power plants because without them we would not have enough power =)
It all depends on the size of the two types of plants ... but on average it would be one for one.
certain medical procedures, determining ages of fossils, radon in homes nuclear power plants
Figures published on website www.world-nuclear.org show that the projected overall cost of electric power from nuclear plants is similar to that from fossil fuelled plants (coal or natural gas). Nuclear plants cost more to build but the fuel costs are lower, so they need to be run at full power whenever possible.
According to Wikipedia's sources, the power plant in Palatka, Seminole Generating Station, is a coal burning power plant. It only appears to be nuclear because of the cooling towers that are iconic of nuclear power plants but can be used coal fired power plants. I would have to imagine that the blast from a coal power plant, if exploded, would not travel the 40 or so miles to Ocala.

There would be no nuclear power plants.
None. Building a nuclear power station is a job for engineers.
No it doesn't having Nuclear powere station The correct answer would be 'currently' Malaysia does not have any nuclear power plants but the government has announced the plan to build 2 nuclear power plants by 2020. As Malaysia has been heavily reliant on gas (around 60%) and coal (30%) the government would like to diversify the energy production and start using nuclear energy as the power generation for the rising electricity demand since it is cheaper in comparative. To produce 1,000 megawatts for one year 20 million tonnes of coal are need whereas only 30 tonnes of uranium are needed. I think this is a sufficient answer; Malaysia will have two nuclear power plants within the next decade or so.
Nuclear power plants have extremely tight security. More to the point, however, WikiAnswers will not provide information about illegal, terrorist activities.
Yes.!
All nuclear power plants (Australian or otherwise) need to be located near a source of cooling water. That means being near a river or lake or sea.
It all depends on the size of the two types of plants ... but on average it would be one for one.
NIMBY
Governments want scientists to work on a nuclear power plant to lessen the dependence of fossil fuels. The product of nuclear power plants are atomic energy, a clean energy alternative.
a little safer, perhaps a little less bright
A few, yes, but Chernobyl was considered a dreafully designed nuclear power plant from the outset, and few plants would have imitated that design, especially after the disaster.
