Ruling out drowning and taking it as otherwise natural (i.e. oral) ingestion, starting with a healthy, hydrated adult in 75 degree F weather under non-strenuous conditions, and not immediately purging oneself or diluting the salt-water with fresh water for an hour... I'm not sure but easily less than a gallon, likely closer to a quart. I've researched and found that it would only immediately serve to dehydrate you and cause kidney failure. Animal Planet's "I Shouldn't Be Alive" mentioned that a mere PINT could cause kidney failure. Impending death after that though would take a day or longer still without treatment, but is likely avoidable if treated.
