A 1983 Chevy Blazer transmission will hold 12 quarts of transmission fluid. The manufacturer recommends using a. SEA certified transmission fluid.
There is no manual band adjustment in that transmission. It is self adjusting.
I live in DE and they wanted 12 to 15 hundred to do my 1992 blazer.

There are a few variables that can determine the cost of replacing a transmission in your Blazer. If you can find a used transmission at a junk yard, or buy a "totaled" Blazer for scrap parts you can get a transmission for relatively cheap, say around $200-$300, if you are capable of doing all the mechanic work yourself. Or, it can cost you upwards of $1500-$2000 for a new one installed by a certified transmission specialist.
I was just quoted $1200.00 for a rebuilt transmission for my 98 Chevy S10 Blazer (2wd, 4.3L). I believe this is an installed price. I live in central Georgia and this is probably the oldest and most reputable transmission shop in the area.
If you are only dropping the pan, 4 qts should do it. If the trans and torque converter are bone dry, aprox 12 qts should do it.

yes you can. pretty much every chevy trans has the same bolt patern. you will just need a transfer case that will bolt up with a passenger drop for the front axle.
i got a rebuilt tranny plus install for my 98 blazer for 1800 from lee miles, i also had problems with it (the torque converter came loose once and it stated leaking trans fluid as well at one point.)
