Is the question "what metric unit would be better suited to describe the measurement of a glass of milk"? And would the measurement be for the glass and the milk, or just the milk? Would it be mass, or volume?

And by which metric system do you mean, the current SI system perhaps?

I too am looking for an answer. The Metric scale goes: Kilo, Hecto, Deca, Basic units (like meters, liters, grams etc.,) Deci, centi, milli. My guess is centiliter or milliliter. Good luck! :)

Since you can pour milk into any size glass you want to, there are many possible

correct answers. In every case, however, the volume of milk in the glass when full

is precisely equal to the volume of the glass when empty.

A glass is a cylinder so the volume is equal to the area of the base multiplied by the height (H).

The base is circular so the area is found by measuring the radius (R). Area = pi * R2

So the volume = pi * R2 * H

Your answer will be in cubic units, usually cubic centimeters (cc).

1cc = 1 milliliter (mL)

30cc = 1 fluid ounce

So, to answer your question, the volume of a glass depends upon the size of the glass. A standard size shot glass will hold 1.5 fluid ounces, while drinking glasses vary in size from 8 to 32 ounces or more.

How many ounces does a finger of whiskey equal?

As with any volume measurement, the important measurement is the radius of the container. A 'finger' of whiskey in a narrow glass will measure a lot less than one in a wide glass. It will also depend on the thickness of the finger used in the measurement..... my fingers are quite a lot thicker than my wife's.
