Depending on the make and model of the USB WiFi antenna, it can boost a WiFi signal range up to 1000 feet and some claim to boost the signal by four times whatever the current output is.

How do I boost my home wifi signal up to a mile in coverage?

Technically it is possible to transmit a WiFi signal 1 mile because the record for the longest transmitted WiFi signal is 238 miles. In the real world a few hundred feet is much closer to the maximum that you will ever see and even then it is limited by any obstacles that are in the way. Maybe some day our WiFi equipment will get better but until then it will just be geeks with too much time on their hands sending WiFi signals long distances.

What type of signal do I get with a USB Ethernet adapter?

Yes, you will definitely get a much better internet signal if you have a USB Ethernet adapter for your laptop in a Wifi area. It would help very much.

Does processor speed determine WiFi strength?

No, processor speed in a computer has no direct impact on WiFi RF signal strength. It is a parameter which is internal to WiFi hardware and can be controller by operating system and the driver software. Most of the time WiFi strength can be adjusted by controlling the signal strength parameters in the control software that is installed along with the WiFi hardware. Also for the same signal power, the lower data rate speed setting on WiFi network will have a larger range. If you increase the speed the range will go down for same signal power (e.g. at 5.5Mbps data speed, the coverage range will be mrore than 11Mbps setting). Also the antenna type, type of room, walls and other obstacles detemine the actual range you may be able to achieve. If you increase the settings of access point to increase RF power you can get coverage over a large area. But be careful, you only need the maximum RF power settings to cover your area of interest. Increasing it too much will take the area coverage outside your house e.g. and outside intruders can misuse your network. - Neeraj Sharma

What is the working principle of wireless power transmission?

The working principle behind wireless power transmission is electromagnetic induction. Let's look at it. We need a power source and a transmitting antenna, and also a receiving antenna to which we can connect the thing to be powered (the electrical load, or just the load). The power source will deliver a high power signal to the antenna. This will create an electrostatic field around the antenna that changes as the signal to it changes. This will create electromagnetic waves that will travel out from the antenna and through the air. The receiving antenna will be in the path of these waves, and the waves will pass by it and "sweep" it with their moving electromagnetic fields. This will induce a signal in the receiving antenna proportional to the energy that the antenna captures. This signal will cause current flow that will power the load. The problem with this system is that it is challenging to "direct" and "confine" the transmitted signal to optimize how much of it gets to the receiving antenna. Additionally, distance causes loss, and there will be a lot of loss over longer distances. The more the distance the signal travels, the much more the loss. But the system works to a limited degree. How much power is needed for an antenna to send a signal?

I'm not an electronic whiz by ANY means, but if I'm correct...Transmitters do the sending and antennas do the receiving.

How do you increase the range of a Wifi transmitter?

You can buy range extenders that work with the wireless router. Bestbuy has some belkin, d-link, netgear and some linksys ones. What I meant was something free. I've heard things like putting a pringles can over the antenna will increase the range. Is that true? If not, are there other things like that that would work? I have tried using cans as improvised "cantennas" over my wireless router's dipole antennas. The signal results were worse than without the cans. A cantenna must be built to the correct dimensions to provide any signal gain, and it replaces the entire antenna. An almost-free solution is to build a parabolic reflector for each of your transmitter's antennas, directing the signal only where it's needed. See http://www.freeantennas.com/projects/template/ The only materials needed are glue, tape, aluminum foil, and light cardstock (a file folder will do). Since the cardstock is "invisible" to your wifi devices, you can tape the left & right edges of the foil to the outside (convex side) of the reflector. When the reflector is bent into a parabola, having the foil on the outside will pull the foil smooth rather than crumpling it. Here's one I designed for specific antennas: http://24.106.181.178/geocorona/index.html A true parabola with the antenna in the correct focal point will precisely direct the radio signals from your wireless device (eg, laptop) to the antenna, and vice versa. A simple reflector such as a can or arbitrarily shaped foil will sometimes cause more interference than signal gain. For those with a Linux-based Linksys router, third-party firmware is available that will allow a capable Linux user to electronically boost the signal strength of the router, but this will not increase the router's ability to receive signals from the client devices it serves. A bi-directional amplifier for the 2.4 GHz frequencies is required to get a signal boost both ways. These amplifiers usually cost as much as the wireless router they boost.

What is the use of parabolic antenna probes or perforator?

When used for transmitting, it concentrates the signal into a narrow beam much like a flashlight beam. For receiving, it concentrates the signal onto a point in front of the dish where it is strongest and can be picked up by the receiver.

What is difference between resonant and non-resonant antenna?

Every antenna is at resonance according to length to which it is cut ! They are usually cut to resonate at a particular band of frequencies, ie, Vhf Television band etc.If no resonance then no signal is present and in such a case antenna is merely a random chunk of metal. The magnetic field that an antenna puts out will produce an electric current on any conducting surface that it strikes, however if that surface has a characteristic length the induced current will be much stronger on the object. For example, when a Citizens Band signal travels through the air, it completes a cycle in approximately 36 feet. If the object that the magnetic wave strikes is 18 feet long (1/2 wave length), 9 feet long (1/4 wavelength) or 36 feet long (1 full wavelength), then the induced current will be much higher than if the signal struck a metal object that was not some appreciable fraction of the wavelength of the signal.A resonant antenna is so much more efficient at converting (receiving or transmitting) current between the field and the antenna's feed-point than a non-resonant antenna that much effort is put into configuring resonance. A non-resonant antenna still works as an antenna but simply requires a more sensitive receiver or more powerful transmitter. If you have ever heard people say they want to "tune" their antenna, they usually mean they mechanically change lengths in relation to the frequency / wavelength they are trying to match. It is also possible to change electrical properties to match frequency, which is more handy for matching multiple frequencies with a single antenna.

Difference between gsm antenna and microwave antenna?

In GSM mainly using Panel type antennas but in the case of Microwave Antenna using Horn antennas. Microwave anteenas propogate signal straghtly. So line of sight (LOS) is main issue in the case of Microwave antenna, it means that both antennas must be allign in face to face. Microwave antennas are using for link between BTS but GSM antennas are directly link with customers. Antenna Gain also very much difference both cases. JPS o,[.[;.;[.]/]/ pppppppppppppppp
