Buddhist monk in retreat is about 8-12 hours a day, out of retreat 3 to 5 hours daily. actually it depends on monks, many of them have break after one hour session. some of them is 1 hour in thé morning, one hour at the evening.

It depends at least 3 times a day for a hour, but this is not set in stone. bodhidhrama is said to meditate for 9 years. Buddha would always be in mediation.
