Best Answer

A spring tide occurs at the new moon or the full moon when the Sun, Moon and Earth are aligned thereby generating the greatest gravitational pull on the tides.
Spring tides occur during either a full or new moon. At these times, the tides are strong due to the gravitational force of the moon and sun

Spring tides (the bigger ones) occur every full moon and new moon. Neap tides (weaker ones) occur every 1st and 3rd quarter moons. There is approximately 28 days in one lunar cycle, which consists of one of all mentioned moon phases - therefore, spring tides occur every 2 weeks, and neap tides occur every 2 weeks. The pattern goes like this:

Spring --> Neap --> Spring --> Neap -----> End of moon cycle
