2-3 times a day with anti-bacterial soap (dial bar soap works best) and you should use h2oceans spray for body piercings (you can find it at hot topic) at least 3-6 times a day
do not use any wound washes,anti-bacterial ointments or sprays such as bactine...it kills all germs including the germs that help heal...

Can you use Benzalkonium Chloride to clean your belly button piercing?
No. BZK as it is known in the first aid world is not intended to be used on puncture wounds, that's what a piercing is a puncture wound. Yes I know it's in the ear piercing solution they gave you to clean your piercing with. Well your navel is not an ear lobe, it's a navel and the BZK can trigger a hypertrophic reaction if misused (and it is often misused). I have a attached a link in the "Related Links" to aftercare for navel piercings. Follow the instructions and all should be good. Some newbie piercing studios are selling stuff that is not good for piercings, they don't know nor do they care, a sale is a sale. I wouldn't go back there again. Find a real professional body piercer next time. Good luck.
What kind of problems do navel rings cause?
Navel rings don't actually cause any trouble, it's the mis use of the aftercare routeen and user error that causes the problem. Navel piercings need to be clean and they need fresh air in order to heal, more often than not people wear tight clothing and cover the piercing for hours on end thus not allowing the piercing to breath. Then skipping the proper cleaning routeen or over cleaning the piercing can cause trouble again. I have provided hundreds of ladies with navel piercings and out of that group only 6% had issues due to the above listed points. # Buy only the best jewellery form known quality vendors (piercing studios) # Get the piercing professionally done by a shop with an excellent track record # Follow the instructions you have been given and if you have trouble go back to the studio for help. # Give the piercing time to heal 3~6 months of longer. Well the jewellery should still be in the piercing, you never remove jewellery from an infected piercing unless it's the jewellery that caused the issue in the first place. Mall bought jewellery is junk and will cause reactions that will often look like and infection. Make sure you have the original jewellery in the piercing and leave it in until your situation has improved.

There's no relation between menstrual cycle and navel piercings, however there are important issues regarding age. Even if the local laws are more lax, it is not appropriate to have a navel piercing if you are under 16 years of age, as the body is still developing. A piercing that looks aesthetic if done when you are too young, can end up in the wrong spot by the time you are fully grown. Also, navel piercings take 6-9 months to heal! So they take a lot of patience and maturity to deal with and care for during that time. For example, you can't go swimming at the beach while you're healing (unless you cover your piercing with a waterproof bandage). Contrary to the above there is a correlation between the cycles and the healing of a navel piercing. More often than not about 2~ 4 days before the cycle arrives the piercing can become annoyed and some what cranky, discharging a bit more than normal. This is often mistaken as an infection and treated with various products all of which just annoy the piercing even more so. Simple irrigation of the piercing while moving the jewellery under warm running water in the shower eases this discomfort and once the cycle starts the piercing reverts to a more normal behaviour. Soak with warm water on a cloth until it is not hot anymore. Use hydrogen peroxide to drain the infections, but you should not use it often becuase it will freeze the cells and complicate the healing process.
