The current accepted protocol in all veterinary colleges in the USA is once every 3 years for the general DHLPP vaccine. For rabies, in most states it is also 3 years but you would need to check with your local and state laws as some states require every year.
Beware of over vaccination. Most pets do not need to be revaccinated even every 3 years. For the health of your pet, request your vet do a titer instead to check the dog's level of immunity.
The best thing to use to kill & keep fleas, ticks & mosquitoes off of your dog is a once a month preventative, such as Frontline Plus or Advantix. You just put the correct dose (based on weight of the dog) on the skin once a month and no more fleas, ticks or mosquitoes which carry the heartworm. Your dog should also be on a year around once a month preventative for Heartworms too. Talk to your Veterinarian about that.
A dog should get anuall flee shots and you can use other types at home every few months.
