I've held a hamster baby right after it was born, so i guess anytime that you feel comfortable to pick them up, and you have to make sure your hamster mother or father is okay if you pick their baby up before. So put your hand over the baby hamsters maybe five inches or so away.
You certainly don't want them to be eaten by the mother or father hamster, which can and does happen. So you need to take some action, or rather inaction to prevent this. I say inaction because the single most important factor in your hamster parents not eating the babies is for you not to "contaminate" them with your human scent. Particularly if it is the parent hamsters first litter, when they get very anxious and protective and would rather eat the babies than leave them to the fate of a perceived predator i.e. you!
A hands-off approach is therefore the best line to take at this time. The mother will feed the babies for the first 2-3 weeks with her milk and will usually bury them somewhere secure, often a nest box. She will often move them from time to time. Who knows why but they do? This can be amusing to watch as she grabs them one by one by the scruff of the neck and moves them somewhere else in the hamster cage, often simply to move them back a few minutes or hours later. You should omit your usual hamster cage cleaning routines during this stage and disturb them as little as possible.
In the first two weeks while the mother is suckling the baby hamsters you need to make sure that she is getting plenty of fluids, dry hamster food and a good supply of fresh vegetables. She will often look much thinner than usual, whilst at the same time the father hamster may look a bit fat. His role is to help out a bit with keeping the hamster pups in line when they start to wander and just generally support the mother. It is good for the parents to be kept together at this time, although if you don't want further hamster babies they need to be separated as soon as possible, as the mother can become pregnant again within hours of delivery!
You can handle the babies as soon as they dry from being born. They are born with eyes open with all their hair and teeth and ready to run.
You should wait for a few days to hold her, then it is okay.
Leaving their mother as in don't drink her milk anymore is 2 weeks old. If you meant leave their mother as in being separated is 5 weeks old.
About 10 weeks.
2 weeks
yea, at first when i had my hamster i was soo scared to hold her but then my friend tried it for me. It was soo cool. When a hamster goes into a new home you have to get her used to the enviroment. So you should definetely hold him =] hamsters are playful (sometimes) so love them and dont be afriad of them.
Did you happen to hold the baby?!?! Your action might harm the babies and change its scent thus confuses the mother. She will think that they are not hers, abandon them and worst she might even eat the babies. If you did hold the baby the mother probably stoped feeding it which made it sick. === === === === * Separate the sick hamster from other hamsters if you are afraid that the sickness/disease could be contagious. * Clean up the cage and if possible sterilized all parts including toys, tubes, bottles and wheels. * All used bedding and unfinished foods should be discarded. * Keep the sick hamster in a quiet place away from any noisy environment to keep the hamster calm and prevent any further stress * Provide the sick hamster with enough water * In the mean time, monitor health condition of other hamsters for the same symptoms. I'm very sorry but there is probably nothing you can do to save him/her. Just make sure you don't make the same mistake with the other hamsters.
It could be hurt or it is mad, you should call the vet
It will scare them but you can hold them. Also if away from the mom they will squeal loudly and they can be with the male and if you can hold a baby and the dad guinea pig together they will get along.
Try to do special thing for it. Play with it, make it netricious treats and hold it often. If you have anymore question about hamster email me @ AnimalLoverAubree@gmail.com!

Dwarf (Russian hamsters) it makes no difference, they do not mind having their young handled. Syrian Golden Hamsters allow at least 2 weeks.
guinea pigs are not tlike hamsters after a day or too you can hold on hamsters will eat their young but guinea pigs wont
No, you should never hold a pregnant hamster
12-14 days after birth
If you want it to have the chances of being eaten or abandoned, go ahead.
yes if you hold them since they were a baby every day 1 hour
Leave the babies alone. Hamsters are known for cannibalizing their babies if they are handled before they are starting to wean.
put in a baby bath and hold its head!
Hi, hamsters are pregnant for 16-28 days.
They cant really tell but make sure the cage is secure before you move it dont hold it by the top hold it buy the bottum and top. hamsters are smart so they will realize they have been moved but i think they will be fine.
