if you are younger than 18 than you will be put in a detention hall and if you are older than 18 you can be put in jail since you are classified as an adult

If by "jail" you mean an institution that is used for keeping inmates confined - - there are juvenile "jails" usually called "juvenile detention facilities," juvenile halls," "juvenile homes,' etc. and depending on the offense minors of fairly young age can be sentenced there. To be placed in adult detention facilities, the individual usually must be at least 18 years of age.

Well, over here in Britain, the minimum age is 18, as Police services here in Europe do not believe in Secure Accomodation or Juvenile Detention. They believe it is wrong.

There is no age limit set by law. Anyone can be arrested (which simply means "taking someone into custody") at any age.
