Your tongue will have a looped clamp put on it to hold your tongue in place, and a piercing needle will be put through your tongue near the middle and a small tongue bar will be inserted closely following the needle.
Sure you can talk normally after a tongue piercing, it's the next day that is a challenge and I would suggest you try not to talk or show the piercing off until it's a week or two old. Stressing the tongue to show it off or talk needlessly is not good for the piercing and will cause the swelling to worsen. Ice cubes , freezies, slushies will be your best friend for a few days.
The initial piercing is not painful. The only thing felt is the pressure of needle. The clamp on the tongue hurts more than the actual piercing. The healing after is the painful part. The tongue will swell, and the muscle will be sore.
