The person who posted the above answer is no doubt confusing Federal Laws regarding the PURCHASE of firearms from FFL;s (federally licensed firearms dealers).
The question was "How old to *own* a gun in Texas"? Not how old to purchase one.
Google this, you may be surprised at what you might find: "It is unlawful to knowingly sell, rent, give or offer to sell, rent or give any firearm to a person under 18 years of age, without the written consent of his parent or guardian".

There is no age limit to possession of a firearm under Texas law. It is illegal to give, sell, etc. a firearm to someone under 18 unless it is by there parents or guardians.
