A fawn will stay with its mother for about a year, after which time they are independent. A male fawn will never sees his mother again, whereas a female fawn will sometimes return with her own fawns to form small herds.

Usually fawns leave their mother when they are a year old. Deer grow fast. A two month old can survive without its mothers milk, but will nurse as long as the mother will let it.

Fawns, can be from one day to twelve months old .Fawns do not have to have spots to be considered a fawn. After their twelfth month they a known as yearlings.
