Born 7th December 1947, Anne Fine is the author of Children's Books and poetry through Random House Children's Books. She had the honour of being the second Children's Laureate during 2001-2003, an award given to exceptional authors. She also won the Carnegie Medal in both 1989 and 1992, and the Whitbread Award in 1993 and 1996.

Ms. Fine's dedication to the craft of writing was born early. One of her grammar school teachers inadvertently taught Anne how to construct a-story-a-week and to write a story in a short time, a skill that many new writers try to cultivate but few succeed at such self-discipline. The author describes these "lessons" on her website where she tells of the reams of paper she filled every Monday like clockwork.

As many authors, she deviated from this imposed 'schedule' as college, marriage, and motherhood took precedence. Yet, always an avid reader, she turned once again to her trusty pencil and eraser when a snowstorm prevented her from exchanging library books for different ones. After she finished that story, another came, and another... She's rarely stopped writing for more than a few weeks since that snowy day in the 1970s, according to her bio page.
