Itachi uchiha was one of the most powerful members of the uchiha clan. He was very strong since his childhood he graduated from the academy at the age of 7 and became chunin at the age of 10 and later joined the ANBU black cops. Itachi always used to poke on sasuke's forehead it was later revealed that he use to transfer his power to sasuke by poking. Yes, after itachi sits on his thrown after killing orochimaru The above is the original answer, but it was a long drawn out battle that Itachi planned ahead of time so that he could kill Orochimaru ( who Sasuke had somehow got his chakra ) destroying the curse mark on Sasuke and giving him his eyes. He was sitting in the beginning, cast a Genjutsu which made it look like Sasuke had caught him unaware, etc etc cue the big long drawn out battle scene where it seems Itachi has won since there both drained of chakra and he still had Susano'o Botta-bing Botta-boom he touches Sasuke, says his final words, and proceeds to collapse dying in the rain. Sasuke looks stunned, then he collapses next to him and passes out from chakra exhaustion.
