S.E. Hinton wrote the outsiders when she was 16 and had it published when she was 17.

nope my Language Arts teacher told me that she wrote it when she was 16. i might have been pubished at 18 or 17, but she defitnatley wrote it when she was 16.

It even says in the back of the book that S.E. Hinton wrote it when she was sixteen years old, though the back of the movie case says she wrote it when she was fifteen, someone always finds a flaw.

Um...actually she began to write it at the age of fifteen to be more specific and she did the majority of the work at the age of sixteen. By that way, thank you for the AWESOME answer because I needed that too.
