The way in which you wash and care for wine glasses has a direct effect on the taste of wine.

  • Crystal glasses are more porous than normal glassware. The tastes and odors from storage boxes and soap are easily absorbed by crystal. Store glassware upright on a well ventilated shelf or hang them from a specialty glass rack.
  • If washing glasses by hand, use the hottest water possible and very little detergent. There are sponges available that are specifically designed for cleaning the inside of wine glasses.
  • If you use a dishwasher do not use detergent. Wash the glasses with hot water only. Depending on the type of glass, a dishwasher can easily break the stem during the wash cycle.
  • Dry wine glasses immediately with a lint free cloth to remove any water spots.
Prior to serving, rinse out the glasses with distilled water or with the wine you are about to serve.

Ideal temperatures for storing wine are between 50-55 degrees F with humidity at 70 degrees or slightly higher. The higher humidity helps keep the corks moist and reduces evaporation of the wine. Regular refrigerators are cooler than this and have lower humidity that will dry the corks and cause wine evaporation. A good wine refrigerator will keep wines at a constant temperature of 50-55 degrees. They will also have little or no movement or vibrations from the motor, which could negatively affect the aging of the wine.

When you first open a bottle of wine try to only screw the sork screw in about half way. that way you can re-corck it and put it in the refrigorator. but to answer your quistion just put it in the refrigorator with a bag wiht a rubber band over the top..or put a cork in it liek i said before.

It depends what type of wine it is, red, white etc. But for red wine, it should be given a day to warm up to room temperature before serving. It is a general rule that red wine should never be served chilled. It robs the wineof too much flavor. If one intends to store wine in a small wine rack, one should store sparkling wines on the lowest shelf, whites above the sparkling and reds above the white. This recommendation for storing wines takes into account the fact that heat rises. Thus the wines requiring the lowest temperature will sit at the lowest temperature.
