Raise the back hatch there is two screws that hold the tail light on (2002 Ford Explorer) remove the tail light and twist out bulb housing , pull release clips and remove bulb. Install bulb in reverse.

If you are speaking of the brake light on the dash, you may be low on brake fluid. Just fill the master cylinder with DOT 3 brake fluid, and the light should not come on anymore.

If the brake fluid level in the brake master cylinder is low ( in your engine compartment ) that will also turn on your emergency brake light just as if the emergency brake was applied
