Basically though, you need to remove transmission or be able to move it back far enough... remove flywheel from crankshaft end... unbolt and remove rear main seal retainer... replace seal and gasket... reverse procedure.
REAR CRANKSHAFT OIL SEAL R & I KA24e Motor
Removal
Remove transmission/transaxle. Remove flywheel or flexplate.
Remove rear oil seal retainer. Scrape old liquid gasket material off
mating surfaces. Drive old seal out of retainer.
Installation
Install new seal into oil seal retainer using seal installer
tool. Apply oil to outside and sealing lip of oil seal. Apply liquid
gasket to rear of oil seal retainer. Wipe oil or foreign material from
oil seal retainer surface at rear of block. Install oil seal retainer
to rear of engine block. Tighten screws to specification. See TORQUE
SPECIFICATIONS.

You can pull the transmission or engine, witch ever you think would be the easyest for you. But you have to remove one of them to replace the rear main. It is a 1 piece seal and it drives over the back of the crankshaft.

1987 and newer requires removing transmission and flywheel to gain access to the rear main seal. The seal is one piece and easy to replace once you gain access to it. 1986 and older requires removing the engine oil pan, oil pump, loosen all main bearing caps, remove rear main bearing cap, replace upper and lower halfs of seal. The upper half is tricky but it can be done. All bearing caps would need to be torqued to specs for assembly. I would suggest purchasing a shop manual for that vehicle if you decide to do the job yourself.
You have to start by pulling out the transmission, this will give you access to the rear cover of the engine, and the rear crankshaft oil seal. You have to remove the rear engine cover once exposed, then you can pop out the old seal and press in the new one! And re-install transmission.
