First, you don't need to backwash a pump but you might need to backwash the filter - depending on what type of filter you have.
All of the Intex above ground pools (that I am aware of) use a cartridge style filter. Cartridge filters are designed to be taken out and cleaned (or simply replaced) rather than backwashed (like a sand or DE filter).
Just follow the manufacturers instructions regarding cleaning and replacement.
For more information, take a look at the Intex pump/filter website (http://www.intexstore.com/shop/shopdisplaysubcat.asp?id=2&cat=Filter+and+Cartridges&menutab=accessories)
Hope this helps...
New HeadlineWe take ours out and clean it with the garden hose. Usually does the trick, if not, just replace it with a new one. We usually stock up with about 6 or so at the beginning of the season. From what i know. If you have an inground pool you should have a filter that has settings on the top for instance (filter, backwash, closed, rinse, ect.)what you need to do is check to see if you have these options if you do what you want to do is (always remember to shut off power before switching functions).Switch to backwash then turn on and let backwash for about 3 to five minutes. you may need to add more water. once you have done that then turn the power off again switch to rinse run about 2 minutes turn off switch back to filter. this should get all debree out of the filter. Also you should have a gauge on the filter the lower the number is better but when it reaches about 20-25 psi it is definetly time to backwash. However backwashing more frequent does not hurt a thing.
Technically, you don't backwash the pool, you backwash the filter. This is assuming you have a sand or DE filter. The filter valve should have a backwash setting. Turn off the pump, set the filter to backwash, and turn on the pump unitl the water runs reasonably clear.
You need to backwash only when your pump pressure is 15 or 20 psi above the normal pressure rate.
To backwash
Note : When you backwash a filter, you drain allot of water from your pool.
According to my directions: Let water turn dirty and then clear up and no longer than 3 minutes. And after every vacuuming.
By turning on ur time clock and then pull the black t shaped handle up that is next to ur filter. Then if u don't want a mess in your back yard then connect a backwash hose to the street. Then when ur finish push lever down once water comes out clear. Then go to ur skimmer n add two scoops of de.
1. sand filter: turn off power to pump, move pump valve to backwash, turn power back on and let run for 2-3 minutes.
2. turn off power to pump, move pump valve to rinse, turn power back on and let run for 1-2 minutes.
3. turn off power to pump, move pump valve back to filter, turn power back on.
there are a few possibilities, depending on what kind of filter you have:
if you have a:
- small filter about 2 feet tall, shaped like a cylinder, it's a CARTRIDGE FILTER and can be cleaned by first closing the suction and return valves, and removing the cartridge, and rinsing with a water hose.
- SAND FILTER(identified by its large rounded shape and a spider valve that has 6 settings). turn all pumps off. turn valve clockwise to "backwash". turn on main pump. wait until the sight glass is clear. turn off pump. turn valve clockwise to "rinse" or "rince". turn on pump for 10 seconds, then turn off again. turn valve clockwise to filter. turn pump on, and you're finished.
i've never seen a DE filter on an above-ground pool, so i won't go into those steps.
You back wash a pool filter not a pool pump. Read your manual. Call the pool store with the brand of filter and back wash valve that you have and they will advise.
You add D.E. to a pool when you do a fresh filter clean. You also add D.E. if you have to backwash your pool more than normal. When you backwash the pool it is also dumping the D.E. out so it needs to be replaced to keep the grids covered so the pool can filter properly. Hope it helped
how do i calculate the volumn of backwash in a pool
Backwash first then shock. If you shock and then backwash you will be throwing away the shock you just put.
No you only backwash your pool when your filter pressure on your filter is high 30psi and above on most pools. If you backwash your pool be sure to add two scoops of de to your skimmer. If the presure is still high the u need to clean the filter
If the pool is really dirty then it is best to set the filter to waste.
Make sure the filter is operating properly and not dirty - backwash or bump. If chlorine level is high, that is good but you may want to give the bottom a good scrub while filter is operating
Potatos dont fly when creepers go into the pool. Hope this helps
Depending on the size of the pool and the size of the filter and the amount of times you have to backwash, also if you have had a lot of rain then you may need to backwash more than usual. If you put the pool in and the filter and you know how old the sand is, if you are backwashing more than usual, change the sand. Also before you backwash check the pressure of the water going back into the pool, then backwash check the pressure again the pressure should for any size hayward pump push your hand away if it does not then change your sand.
29 gallons
You can set up a siphon hose if your pool is on a hill, otherwise, buy a pump. Hatawa
There wont be any dirt under the sand. When you vacuum your pool you should do it on filter mode Otherwise you will lose a lot of water for nothing, this would be especially wasteful in the case of a salt water pool. Ofter having vacuumed the pool on filter mode and if the pressure gets too high backwash. after backwash rinse for a minute, then return to filter.
No , if you have a D.E. filter instead of an older cartridge filter than the D.E. can get pretty messy if when you filter clean , and if you have a backwash when you backwash .
