How do to beat mocktropica?

Mocktropica is the 36th island of Poptropica (not counting the relaunch of other islands in the new 2013 form). It was released for free general play on January 16, 2014. The quest is to return three Poptropica creators to their jobs after the website has come under new management and fallen into corporate chaos. It includes a separate fictitious gaming website called Mega Fighting Bots.

Entering the Island

Some of the normal functioning of the site seems glitchy, and there are problems with the images and layout, but these are part of the quest. Poptropica has supposedly been taken over by greedy corporate types who are cutting staff and shirking the proper development of new islands.

1) Enter the Poptropica Worldwide Headquarters, and go left to meet the Focus Tester, who shows how he simply does what the most players want. You get a piece of cake, too. Before investigating further, you must go to the three upper floors.

2) Use the elevator to go to the second floor, where you meet the Safety Inspector, who is creating useless "safety devices" for Poptropicans (who cannot actually be injured).

3) Go to the third floor where you meet the Ad Sales manager. You will have to click the first of an unending series of pop-up ads to remove it.

4) Go to the fourth floor where you meet the Resource Manager, and you can use the "Story Generator 2000" to generate random island ideas.

5) Return to the first floor where you can ask about the current staff ("development monkeys") of the company, who are working in the basement. Click the basement door to go down.

The Basement

6) Talk to the four workers and one will tell you about the three employees who have left, who are needed to finish the island: a writer, a designer, and a programmer. She gives you their ID badges.

7) To enable you to work within the island as it is, you need to change some things. -- On the computer on the left, open the folder marked "Island Maker Pro" on the second row. Change the Mood to "Happy" so that you can get past any unfriendly security guards. (Save and Quit).

-- On the computer on the right, rearrange the buildings and structures on Main Street with the restaurant (tallest building) on the right, next to the Headquarters, and the Poptropica statue just to its left. This is so that you can climb to the roof later. The new changes will appear outside when you leave.

8) Leave the basement and head outside. The Focus Tester interrupts you with his latest great idea: Achievements. Now both ads and achievement banners will randomly appear as you play. Click the ads until they go away.

9) Go left outside and you find a user who has obtained a Narf pet. He goes to feed it.

The University and the Factory

10) Follow him right to Ephraim University, where you find the writer working as a Writing professor. When his copy of the poem appears, click the ad repeatedly and it burns up the page. He tells you he needs soda, which you will later in the quest.

11) Go outside and farther right, where the user finds that his pet is multiplying. Continue right to the Cheese Factory. Inside, the designer is working making Cheese Curds snacks. Talk to him and click the machine to get a bag of Cheese Curds.

12) Leave and return to Main Street, where the user with the Narf pet has tired of the procreating hairball. Use the Cheese Curds from your item bag and click the spacebar to feed them. Continue left on the path to Mount Funshine.

13) The Safety Inspector will not let you cross the large chasm. Click the spacebar to throw a cheese curd into the chasm. The voracious narfs will chase behind it, their vast numbers filling up the hole.

14) On the other side, climb the hill to the top where you meet a climber (the tricky part of the climb involves jumping onto the tilted side of a rock). He can't climb up because the mountain isn't finished. You can take his discarded climbing axe, and go back to Main Street.

Main Street

15) The Focus Tester has another brilliant idea: Poptropica Coins. Before you can continue to the right, you will need to get some.

16) Enter the Poptropica Headquarters, go to the basement, to the left computer, and open the Island Maker again. Change the "time of day" to Night. Go back outside.

17) In the dark, there is a rogue developer who will give you some counterfeit Poptropica Coins. Go right and use them to leave Main Street.

The Cheese Factory

18) Climb up to the machine (the one with the "Do Not Hit With Climbing Axe" label) and click it to destroy the curd maker. The designer agrees to go back to Poptropica, and you are automatically back in the basement.

The Basement

19) The designer finishes Mount Funshine. Use the Island Maker again to change the conditions to Day and Clear (you cannot reach the summit unless you do this). Leave and go left to Mount Funshine. (Your item bag is acting glitchy.)

20) Climb to the top and up the rope. (The clouds clear and reveal that there is a lift chair that goes to the top.) Climb to find the developer, bearded and communing with nature. Play him a game of Mancala and win

-- The game is a little tougher than the one on Nabooti Island. Start by clicking the 4th bin, with 4 pebbles, then the 5th, and 6th on your turns and you should have winning chances. Beware of leaving lots of pebbles in bins across from an opponent's empty one.

-- A possible game to try is 4, 3, 5, 4, 2, 3, 1, 1, 4, 2 -- bringing pebbles to your side. Another is 3, 5, 2, 3, 5, 4, 3, 4 (empties your side but scores enough).

The Basement and the Building

21) The item bag is fixed. Go back outside and the Focus Tester has another ostensibly great idea: Collections. He wants you to collect 1000 soda bottles. Climb to the roof by way of the restaurant and statue to get the first one.

22) You also meet the Safety Inspector who gives you a huge cumbersome helmet to wear (take it off).

23) Jump back down, go right and find that the Focus Tester is struggling with a huge crate of the soda bottles that blocks the path. Go back inside to the basement and use the right side computer to pick up and smash the crate.

24) Exit and go right past the Focus Tester to the University.

The University

25) The soda pop is not enough to convince the writer to return, but he has a compulsion to edit scripts. Go back to the basement to find one.

The Basement

26) The Resource Manager has all the employees two-to-a-chair, which reveals two duffle bags next to a column. Click them to find an old guy sleeping behind them. He is a "forgotten" employee and just wants to nap. Use your piece of cake instead and he gets up. Behind him is a trash can, and if you root through it, you will find a script (it's Zomberry Island). Take it and go outside and head back to the University.

The University

27) Click on the writer and he is compelled to proofread the script. His class is glad to get back to their Video Games.

28) Outside, the Ad Manager has created a rapidly moving ad that defies closing. Head back to her office in the Headquarters.

Headquarters

29) Use the Poptropica Coins to buy up all the ad space and close that ad. Go back downstairs. The Resource Manager says she has cut costs by reducing the number of servers.

30) When you try to enter the basement, the screen breaks down and you find yourself on a blank blue screen with the Poptropica logo. You can jump up into it, but it hurts you. Put on the huge "safety helmet" and use it break the letters one by one.

31) You find yourself in the server circuits. You have to route four connections (colors) to each of the four separate servers at the bottom, to avoid overloading any. Go to the red rotary switch (click ), the yellow switch (click ), the green switch (click twice) and the blue switch (click once). The red will connect to the first server at the bottom, the yellow to the second, the blue to the third, and the green to the fourth (these two colors are swapped).

32) The site returns to normal, but there is one more enemy to face: the four managers are actually the operators of Mega Fighting Bots, and they assemble their four robot parts to battle you. Click to shoot coins at the giant robot, and then shoot down the two Achievement banners as well. The managers flee in their MFB jet, and you receive the Island Medallion.

33) The lead-in to the members only Bonus Quest is that a Poptropica programmer named Mark Hertz left to develop the Mega Fighting Bots site, and you see his lasr e-mail. But only paid monthly members play the Bonus Quest, which is simply the same MFB game made winnable.

BONUS QUEST

Now you can fight the Mega Fighting Bots without them cheating you. You fight Safety Bot, Ad Bot, Focus Bot, and Mega Bot (aka Colonel Hertz). But this time you have unlimited MegaCoins. Beat all 5 robots (if you lose a match, just replay it). The game actually gets easier after the first bot. You win the Bucket Bot costume.

NOTES:

- The Bonus Quest was not playable until January 10, mitigating its value in promoting new memberships.

- The final release of the game included an ad for a Funbrain webcomic called "Galactic Hot Dogs" and it you try to skip it, it can unintentionally crash Poptropica for real. It is the real-life ad you can't get rid of.

- The change to Night can be done at any time, but is not needed until the "coins" are introduced, to bring out the coin counterfeiter.
