Because Netflix is a streaming movie service, your Wii must be connected to the Internet to use it.
With netflix. There's a netflix channel you can download on the wii shop channel. You have to have a working netflix account though. That's the only way.
I am not sure i know for a fact that you can do netflix on the wii.....my family and i watch movies on the wii with netflix all the time.....but far as a dvd.........give it a try :)
