Hi,

HDTV and regular TV signals aren't compatible. Unless you can get a converter box somewhere, don't waste your time trying.

Hope this helps,

Optimal connection is HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface). This supports all modes from the cable box to the TV.

What's the best way to hook up a hdtv to a cable box?

A Cable box and TV are connected together through a RF cable.

If i have a digital cable box and plug it into my basic cable will i get digital cable?

No. No when it comes to subscription channels such as MTV, Food Netowrk etc. You have to have a cable box that is from a local cable provider and call the company to activate the service. If you have an HDTV with a digital tuner, you can plug in the basic cable from a wall into your television and scan for channels. You will only get unencrypted / basic network channels such as CBS, NBC, Fox, PBS, etc.

How do you hook up an HDTV to a Blu-ray and cable box?

The blu-ray instruction manual usually includes instructions for connecting the blu-ray to the HDTV, as well as how to program the blu-ray and HDTV to work together. The manuals are your best source of instruction. If the manuals are missing, you can usually download them from the manufacturer's website. The HDTV has several input connectors. Connect your cable box to one input, using a compatible cable (usually included), most often an HDMI cable these days. Connect your blu-ray HDMI output to another HDMI input on the HDTV using another HDMI cable. Then use the HDTV remote control to select the desired input source. If you want to use a blu-ray with speakers for your sound system, you must connect an HDTV audio output to a blu-ray audio input. Depending on the particular HDTV and blu-ray, you may use an audio cable with RCA connectors, or a fiber optic digital cable. If the HDTV and blu-ray both support a feature called ARC, the same HDMI video cable can also carry the digital audio signal. Refer to the manuals for setting up the HDTV and blu-ray audio.

Why do you have to have to have a converter box for HDTV if you are a cable company subscriber?

If by converter box you mean a digital converter box, the type that are being subsidized by the government, you don't. If you mean a tuner box, it is because the cable line is transmitting data, and it has to be interpreted into a video signal your TV can use.

Can you buy your own box to receive the HD TV signal if you have just purchased a HD TV and have not signed up for HD TV service from your cable company yet?

Please note that you don't have to have HD TV service to play HD TV games, but you do to watch high definition television. If your TV is an "HDTV" (as opposed to a "HD ready TV"), then the Radio Shack box isn't going to do you any good. There are two ways that you might be able to get HDTV programing without buying HD cable service. Your HDTV should have a digtial over the air tuner (ATSC in the US). If you are located in an area were you can get TV reception with an antenna, then just hook up a TV antenna to your HDTV and tune into a HDTV broadcast. Some cable systems include non-premium digial channels in a format called QAM. Most HDTVs have a QAM tuner built into them. Just connect your HDTV directly to your cable outlet (not through a converter box) and scan for digital cable channels.

Starting from an HDTV cable box using a split cable going to the pip output can you connect another tv to the pip output and get an HDTV picture on the other tv?

Hi, It really depends on your PIP output on the cable box and whether or not the output is HDTV or standard TV. And in some cases, the PIP output will only display non-HDTV channels, depending again, on the box and the cable company. However, IF the cable company says that a HDTV signal is available from the PIP output on the cable box, then it'll probably work. The only way to be sure is to connect a TV and find out. Hope this helps, Cubby
