A broken valve cover gasket will lead to a very large oil leak, replacing it is relatively simple requiring only basic tools. First unplug the battery and remove the spark plugs, along with all the valve cover mounting nuts and bolts. Remove the old gasket and set the new one in place, using a gasket sealer is recommended.
Valve cover gasket, oil pressure switch, camshaft seals, main bearing seals, pan gasket, etc. According to an article I Read last night on neons there is a cam shaft sensor on the firewall side of the engine with a natorious leak ! Good Luck ! Don`t forget to have a look to see that the oil pan itself may have rusted out!
You need to follow the same procedure as for timing belt replacement. But in the case of the oil pump you have to remove the oil pan too. There is a strainer attached to the oil pump from the bottom you will have remove it too. Then replace the oil pump, make sure that you have replace the oil pan gasket, and oil pump gasket.
