I hate to say it, but probably not. That behavior is very ingrained into cats. That is the type of thing they have been bred to do for centuries. We have gerbils and after two years of daily battles with spray bottles, newspapers, and the like our cat still jumps on top of their house every couple of hours. The gerbils are in a big 30 gallon tank with a secure lid. They don't even notice the cat anymore. It seems to be a lost cause.
