It does not in a true transformer.

If you are talking about items in a charger or a power supply for game, phone, laptop and so on it has three basic stages.

  1. A set of coils wound inside each other step the voltage down to the target voltage. This can also be done using capacitors and whizy electronics. The whizy electronics can skip the next step (2) By switching internally and feeding the capacitors very brief full AC voltage.
  2. Then the resulting power goes through a rectifier becoming almost DC power. The problem at this stage is that the AC to DC rectifier leaves "Ripples" in the power that can cause serious trouble for DC run electronics.
  3. It will go into a Capacitor "block" (My term) to smooth the ripples out.

This is a seriously simplified version, but this is the basic steps.

What type of electrical equipment cannot convert AC into DC?

A transformer cannot convert AC into DC.

Does electrical transformer use a DC or AC source?

A transformer is a device to convert high voltage AC to low voltage AC & vice-versa. It works on the principle of induction. Since induction occurs only in an AC supply, a transformer cannot work on DC.. So, it is not possible to convert DC supply to AC using transformer. You would need an inverter to convert DC to AC.

How do you convert 24volts to 12 volts?

If you want to convert 24v AC into 12v Ac, it's simple. Just get a transformer to convert 24 volts into 12 volts. This is called a stepdown transformer. If you want to convert 24v DC into 12v DC, it's more complicated. First you have to change the 24v DC into 24v AC by a switching converter that changes DC into AC. Then you would use a stepdown transformer as in the former example. Once the 24v AC is converted to 12v AC, then you use a rectifier bridge to change the 12v AC into 12v DC.

How a rectifier transformer deffer from a power transformer?

rectifier transformer converts acinto dc.but, power transformer convert step up or step down ac energy without changing frequency

Does centre tap transformer convert ac voltage to ac voltage?

Yes. Transformers convert power by stepping up or down voltage. It doesn't matter what tap configuration they have.

Why will or won't a transformer operate on AC?

transformer will work on ac

Why do you obtain more dc voltage than ac voltage in power supply design by using transformer?

You don't. Transformers only work with AC voltage. Their input will be an AC waveform, and their output will be an AC waveform. Other electronics are used to convert the stepped down AC waveform from the transformer to DC.

What will happen when a single diode is connected to a transformer with ac signal?

it convert ac signal into dc signal But it will give only half-wave rectification.

What is the formula to convert 240 volt to 12 volts?

If it is AC then you don't need a formula, you just need a transformer.

How are is a transformer and a rectifier different?

A transformer changes the VOLTAGE of AC current (AC to AC). A rectifier changes AC to DC.

How do you convert 5 volts into 12 volts?

If it is AC voltages you need to convert, you need to find a transformer to do this job. Without knowing the application it is hard to guess what you are trying to do.

How do you reduce a 230v ac transformer to produce 140v ac?

By using step-down transformer
