The 2004 Indian ocean Tsunami was triggered by a magnitude 9.2 earthquake off the coast of Sumatra. The earthquake occurred at a subduction zone where the Indian Plate slides under the Eurasian Plate. These plates had snagged and, over the course of centuries, built up stress. On December 26, 2004 they slipped, causing the earthquake. As they slipped, portions of the sea floor moved up while others moved down. This displaced large amounts of seawater, triggering the tsunami.
the tsunami in 2004 occured by an under water earthquake when of the Indian tectonic plates slid under another plate causing friction to make an earthquake which allowing water in a gap causing little waves then bigger and bigger waves.in more words the ocean floor moved which caused the ocean to go close to the shoreline.
The 26 December 2004 tsunami was caused by a 9.3 magnitude earthquake, out in the Indian Ocean. The Eurasian and indo-australian tectonic (Tectonic plates are sections of the Earth's crust which move to release pressures which build up underneath them) were moving towards each other. The plates are rigid so when the two plates collided, they kept pushing into each other. when the pressure got too much, the Indo-australian plate slipped under the Eurasian plate sending out shock-waves which therefore caused the earthquake.. This caused a massive displacement of water, resulting in a powerful tsunami.
The 2004 tsunami was the result of something called a megathrust earthquake. Off the coast of Sumatra, where the Tsunami originated, there is a subduction zone, a place where one tectonic plate pushes into and slides under another. In this case the Indian Plate is sliding under the Eurasian Plate. As this happens the plates become snagged on one another and distort under the force of it, building up tension over the course of a few hundred years. Eventually the plates snap back into place, triggering a major earthquake. This results in part of one plate being thrust upward, displacing an enormous column of water and creating a tsunami.
The 2004 Tsunami occurred due to a massive earthquake that happened in the Indian Ocean. Over 250,000 people were killed as a result of the tsunami.
It is the movement of the tectonic plates on the sea floor LOL!
Techtonic plates under the ocean moved and created an earthquake underwater. This made a huge wave which then crashed at shore.
how, when and what was the cause of the tsunami of 2004
a earthquake under the sea
A tsunami caused most damage in 2004
the wave-length of Dec 26, 2004 tsunami is 1,000,000,000 caused of tsunami in indonesia is caused by an earthquake
The Richter scale, was measured to be 9.3, but that was the earthquake that caused the tsunami.
The 2004 tsunami in the Indian Ocean was caused by an undersea megathrust earthquake. The tsunami took place on the 26th of December.
The tsunami that struck Thailand in 2004 was not caused by a cyclone, no tsunami is. Like most tsunamis, it was triggered by an earthquake. Estimated of its size range between magnitude 9.1 and 9.3

China!
The cause of the earthquake was that the boundaries were sliding past each other and caused an earthquake in which resulted in a tsunami.
The 2004 tsunami in the Indian Ocean was caused by an undersea megathrust earthquake. The tsunami took place on the 26th of December.
Yes, the 9.0 magnitude earthquake caused the tsunami.
Bangkok was hit by the 2004 tsunami. This happened on December 27, 2004 at around 4 pm and caused a lot of damage and causalities.
Megathrust

The worst tsunami in history is the tsunami that was caused in the Indian Ocean by an earthquake in 2004. Millions of people were left homeless in eleven countries and almost 150,000 people left dead.
The tsunami 2004 was bigger
