Who was the first female associated with computers?
Ada Augusta Countess of Lovelace wrote the first computer program for Charles Babbage's mechanical programmable digital computer: the Analytical Engine, but this computer was never built so her program was never run. Grace Murray Hopper was hired to be the third programmer for Howard Aiken's electromechanical programmable digital computer: the Harvard Mark I. She later programmed other computers at Harvard before being hired by Remington Rand to program their UNIVAC business computers. All of the ENIAC programmers were women (Kay McNulty, Betty Jennings, Betty Snyder, Marlyn Wescoff, Fran Bilas and Ruth Lichterman), because programming was considered "just a clerical task" and beneath the pride of the male mathematicians that worked out the mathematics to solve problems on ENIAC.

Why is it important to educate women worldwide?
Since women are the primary caregivers for children, it is vital that they are able to provide them with the early education they need before they enter school. Also, girls need to see that women are able to do anything they decide to do. This requires them to be able to see women in leadership positions. Leadership positions require education.
