In the years preceding the Second World War, Britain's production represented 9.2% of the world's overall manufacturing, while the US manufactured 32.2% of the world's goods. The US had a far greater percentage of food & raw materials available within its borders than Britain not needing the shipping that Britain required to sustain the population & industry. The US produced almost three times the amount of steel that Britain did, 53% more coal, and generated more than four times the amount of electricity as Britain. Although the US population was about three times that of Britain, it had almost six times more motor vehicles. Britain was only 25% food sufficient, whereas the US was over 95% self-sufficient in food. Britain's industries were vulnerable to enemy air attacks, and the US manufacturing facilities were far out of range of enemy attacks. US facilities were somewhat more mechanized & efficient producers of goods, using less labor & time.

Industrialization in the UK, and this answer will narrow the UK down to Great Britain and England was indeed different than the industrialization in China. Even without breaking down China's industrialization to the time before and after the Communist Party took over China in 1950, the two countries' industrialization process was vastly different. Here is why:

A. England's industrial revolution had its roots in the later part of the 17th Century while China's began much later;

B. For all practical purposes, the industrialization of what is now the Peoples Republic of China began in earnest after 1950. It is true that some industrialization took place before that date;

C. The Pre Communist industrialization was greatly inhibited by the invasion of Japan in 1931. Industries prior to that were in a catch up mode when compared to Japan and even Western Europe;

D. England's industrialization was helped by several factors:

1. England could take advantage of raw Natural Resources imported from its colonies;

2. This process accelerated as more modern ways of mining or growing resources to be shipped to England became available;

3. The process in England was enhanced the requirement of building a stronger base than its rivals in Europe;

4. Later, trade unions developed in England which added to the wages and protection of workers, making England's process faster and more advanced;

E. China's industrialization was hampered under the Communist regime. It has been demonstrated the government owned & operated factories are slower to achieve desired results, when compared to England's process. It should be noted however, that to this day, coal mining is owned by the socialism system of England. This industry is one of the few that are socialized however;

F. In China, socalled trade unions are not free inasmuch as the Chinese government retains overall control of industry, despite huge reforms towards mix economy policies;

G. In 1960, the Soviet-Chinese "rift" hurt the industrialization of China in that technologies that the USSR was sharing with China came to an abrupt half due to huge political differences among both communist nations;

H. England did not have the above mentioned problem that hampered China's industrial growth;and

I. For decades before 1950 and for decades after, China, in relative terms, was more isolated then was England. This isolation caused slower growth.
