The Church of England was created when King Henry VIII had an argument with the Pope in Rome. King Henry pulled the church out from under the Pope. He kept the same organization. He told Archbishop Crammer to create a new worship service. Crammer created the Book of Common Prayer. He took Martin Luther's worship service but replaced the contents with his own translation of the worship service used by the Greek Orthodox Church. In the back, he put Calvinist articles of faith. So, it is a Roman Catholic, Greek Catholic, Protestant Church. What else would you like to know?

∙ 13y agoThe Church of England was established in 1534 when King Henry VIII broke away from the Church of Rome and made himself supreme head of the church in England.
Henry had wanted to have his marriage to Katherine of Aragon annulled as she was considered to old to provide him with an heir but the pope would not allow it. The king's need for an heir was greater than his need for a foreign church leader.
