On the contrary, the war was very popular amongst Americans as they were angered by British impressment of American sailors.
....so "popular", in fact, that the seven New England states openly discussed seceding from the union. President Madison was stampeded into attacking his neighbour by the politicians known as the War Hawks, who saw impressment as an excuse to forcibly annex Canada.
His invasion of Canada set off riots in which American citizens died. The Royal Navy's blockade of American ports caused severe economic hardship that made the war even more unpopular.
So did the result of the American attempt at invading its neighbour. The US Army was badly led and badly supplied, and although it greatly outnumbered the defenders of Canada, it was routed, and sent retreating back over the border in a series of battles, none of which made Americans any more fond of sending their sons off to an unnecessary war.
The war was so unpopular, in fact, that the state of Vermont continued to sell strategic war materials to the Royal Navy through most of the conflict.
It was a very historic fight between America and The Great Britain. It was one of the many things that gained America it's respect because America had stood its ground against one of the best army in the world at that time. There had been no winner in that war because a treaty was signed during the last battle I think, and that last battle was won by America. I was an ill fought battle because a lot of people had died during it! Make sure though and go on www.Google.com and search up the War of 1812.
This war was one of the worst fought in American history simply because the United States was not prepared to go into a war, and once the nation was in war, there was very limited organization. Prior to the war, the navy was nonexistent; the United States lacked a large standing army; and the U.S. military force was overall inexperienced, poorly trained, and overly confident. The United States started the war by attempting to capture Canada, Britain's last stronghold in North America. Theoretically, had the U.S. army been better trained and more significant in military size, the U.S. might have succeeded. However, this was not the case, even when the British military was not at full force (please note that Britain was at the time in a war with France - a more significant fight for them - and Britain's "JV" team was taking on the United States full military force). The U.S. had failed to capture Canada, their one early chance to take a competitive edge in the war, and now that Britain had defeated Napoleon-led France, they could send over the full might of their military. The United States army was dwarfed in size and skill by the British, who were young and already experienced in defeating a world power. Had it not been for the men people read about in the history books, (and a little bit of luck (check out the weather right after the British burned D.C.)) the United States more than likely would have lost the war and reverted to British colonies.

William Henry Harrison fought the war in 1812, According to a game. (:
There are several battles that fit that description, for a number of different reasons, but in American History, the one that best fits is The Battle of New Orleans in the War of 1812. It was actually fought after the peace treaty had already been signed, but neither army had been informed of that fact.
