After World War II, the map of Europe changed drastically due to all the power Germany had lost after the war had finally ended. In doing so, Germany was officially divided up. However, soon after it returned to its original state.

mainly, Germany controlled about half of Europe. after world war one, this land was lost

The German, Austro-Hungarian, Ottoman and Russian Empires collapsed. It created new countries in all these areas. Germany, Austria, Yugoslavia, Hungary, Turkey, Syria, Poland...all important countries in WWII or the Cold War.

Germany lost a huge amount of land and population,specially Alsace-Lorraine to France (originally French land).

2.Austria- Hungary was split into three independent nations- Austria, Hungary and Czechoslovakia.

4. Serbia set up a Slavic state in Balkan, named Yugoslavia.

Western Europe typically remained the same except for a few alterations to the borders of Denmark, France, Italy, and Germany and the formation of Finland. However, Eastern Europe definitely did not remain the same, as the map was completely altered.
