Genesis says that God walked around and talked to Adam and Eve, face to face. The author of these passages, now known as the Yahwist, always wrote of an anthropomorphic God with human characteristics.

God saved mankind from their sin, by letting his only son , Jesus die on the cross for our sins.

Might I add that what has been said is true, but, Christ died that we will not live forever in our sins. We still have to repent of all of our sins. Because Christ died on the cross does not mean that we may receive the highest degree of glory that awaits those who have repented of their sins. Committing a sin, repenting of it and then committing it again may lead us to a stage where there is no forgiveness. God will only forgive so many times.

It derives from the ancient Hebrew (and probably other cultures) practice of laying the sins/misdeeds of a person or people upon an innocent animal such as a sheep or goat, and then killing it (sacrifice) or driving it out into the wilderness to die. This is the basic sense behind the Christian view of Jesus Christ taking upon himself the sins of the world and allowing himself to be captured and executed, and a reading of the gospels leaves little doubt that Jesus himself knew the path he was treading and deliberately followed it. Hence the description frequently applied to him "Pascal Lamb" -- the crucifixion occurred at the time when the authorities performed these rites. Parallelling this is the old testament story of the Hebrew captives in Egypt killing a lamb to smear blood on their doorposts to avoid the wrath of God's angel of death (the original "Passover"). So Christians believe that through this sacrifice, mankind has been saved from sin.

Adam and Eve had eaten of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil and were now like gods (Genesis 3:22: "And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us..."), except that they were still mortal. By eating of the Tree of Life, they would then also be immortal, so the only course left open to God was to banish Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden and place cherubim and a flaming sword across the path back to the Tree of Life. This was not a punishment, but a necessary result of their having become god-like.

Cherubim were not angels, in the post-Exilic sense, but were perceived as sphinx-like creatures with the bodies of lions, human heads and wings.

The second creation story in Genesis (Genesis 2:4b-25) tells the story of the creation of Adam and Eve. Unlike the first creation story (Genesis 1:1-2:4a), in this account God's powers are limited and he was unable to make things out of nothing. He had to model Adam out of moist clay and breathe life into him. Similarly, he then made all the animals out of clay, but made Eve out of Adam's rib (or 'side', depending on translation).

God saved Adam and Eve, by acceptingthe couple's remorse and allowing them to be happy and successful outside of the Garden of Eden. The couple was punished for having eaten of the forbidden fruit. Their punishment was the loss of their job, their immortality, their home, and their comfortable existence. But God let them settle outside the Garden, and see their family line continued by a number of children and a steady line of descendants. With their deaths, the couple was allowed to spend the afterlife in Heaven, instead of Hell.

Why is there an original sin when there was only the first sin?

Original sin as referred to in the Bible, and in sermons, is the disobedience of Adam to God when He told him not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. This was the first sin that man committed, which plunged all of mankind into a constant state of sin, until God sent His only Son, Jeshua (Jesus in English) to redeem all of mankind back from all sin. So the first sin and the original sin are the same.
