Where women had often done labor for guilds or at home, they now had tp go to factories to make long hours. Therefore for poor women, the quality of life became less during this time. They had to though, since traditional workplaces could no longer compete.

workers where treated badly. they where often beaten and factory owners employed children from the young age of 5. children worked long hours with little or no pay they where given extremely short breaks and where forced to stand up whilst working. large heavy machinery was used an many children where killed or severely injured by getting caught up in the machine. a common punishment for girls was to have their hair cut off

The women had to work long hard hours and in often dagerous conditions. So they formed unions to get better working conditions, higher pay, and shorter working days.
