if they were born blind there really is nothing you can do. they won't know what red looks like or what's round........ ..that is not true, a blind person can know round by touch, they can know crisp and sweet by taste, sweet by smell, they can feel the smooth skin with a stalk at one end, and the blossom end at the other....
Describe what you are seeing and tell the blind, "the house, the car, is red. Red is a color that resembles hotness, the opposite of cold.... fire is red, or something else that you think about. Obviously if the person is blind since he was born.

If you tell a blind person that a particular object is red in color, the blind person may choose to believe you or not to believe you, based upon his or her experience of your general reliability in the past. I have a blind friend, whom I have known for decades, and if I tell him that something is red, he will believe me, because he knows that I would not lie to him.
If this blind man was born blind, he has no image of what seeing could be like, and there is no way. If this blind man became blind later and remembers colors, you can describe it as a massive, concave half circle, where the outer part is red, and it fades to orange, then it fades to yellow, etc.

I believe the tip of a blind person's cane is RED.
In my opinion, black is the easiest colour to describe to a blind person. Ask the person what they see? When they answer nothing, that is the colour of black. Dark, unseeable. Or at least that is how I would describe it.
Green & red
In The Giver, all the people of the community are color blind, but since Jonas is The Giver, he can see colors. What happened to the apple was that he was able to see the color red.
This is a very interesting question, and believe it or not, it comes up frequently. I personally think (and I could be totally wrong), that there is no way to describe any color to some one who has been blind from birth. We can also ask, "does a blind person from birth dream, and if so what do they see, if anything." I will be looking in on this question from time to time. I am very interested in what others have to say. Viper1 ANSWER Color is also Different for every person, as your irises are different from others. If they have ever seen some color, then you could compare it, otherwise, then you would be just best to compare it to things that have tastes or colors, since how could they imagine it. Here is a good question, what do blind people see in their thoughts? Colors, even People?
