How would water get in the trunk of a 2000 Neon. I can't find where its coming from. Where should I look?

There are many possible leak points, but the most common place for a trunk water leak in a neon is around the tail lamp mounting bolt holes. If you are unable to locate and repair the leak, there are people who specialize in this type of repair.

If it were mine, I would have someone get inside of the trunk(boot)with a flashlight. Close it and then run some water over and around the edge of the trunk; not too much pressure. Start at the bottom(closest to you) and slowly work your way around one side to the other and then back to the bottom. In other words, make a loop around the edge of the trunk. Your helper should be able to see where the water is coming in, if there is no leak then it might be around the taillights or rear window. If the leak is around the trunk weatherstrip, either replace it or close the gap at the leak by hammering the lip of the trunk opening, not the trunk lid itself. If it around the taillights or window, try using some silicone sealer.

As far as I know there is no trunk fuse, since the only thing in the trunk would be a light check out the bulb, if it's ok follow the wire to the switch, you may have knocked it out of adjustment so it isn't coming on when the trunk is opened

You have a bad seal someplace. If a visual inspection of the seal around the edges of the trunk opening don't reveal the problem there's another way to check. Find a volunteer (preferably small and agile) who really really trusts you. Have them get inside the trunk with a decent flashlight. Close the lid then apply water from a hose. Your 'inside guy' might be able to spot where the water is coming from. As an alternative you could probably use something that would light the trunk interior (flourscent camping light comes to mind) along with a video camera aimed at the trunk lid. It might take several tries to get all angles but eventually you should spot the leak. Cheers Cheers

If I did it would be because there is a flaw in the gasket that seals the trunk lid. To find it take a flashlight and have an assistant with keys close you in the trunk. Have your assistant run water from a hose over the trunk lid while you look at the seal from inside. You will find your leak.

I would guess that box is to allow air pressure to escape the trunk , when you close the trunk lid. They have flaps that let air pressure out , but not suck air in. Just a guess!
