Racism is never going to stop, but we can reduce it by influencing others to stop. You don't have to accept any form of racist hassle. Everyone, no matter what their nationality or race, has a right to live happily and free from discrimination.

If the problem is in your school, you should approach a member of staff that deals with this type of incident or if you are not sure who to go to - talk to a member of staff who you can trust and tell him/her about what has been going on. You should also tell family and friends about this so that you can also get their help and support. Other parts of your life will suffer if you keep silent. Speak up now before the problem takes over.

Be prepared to speak out and tell people just how it's affecting your life and your well-being. If you are going to alert someone to the fact that you're being threatened, abused or bullied, then do it properly.

Many scholars, members of the clergy, and ordinary citizens have wondered this same thing. Studies show that when young children meet and play with children of another race, they are a lot less likely to be prejudiced when they get older, since prejudice is a learned behavior, and it is often based on fear of those who are different. Children do perceive color, but they have no judgment about it-- in other words, they recognize difference, but it's not something they think is good or bad.

Parents and other adults are the role models for young kids, and if children hear racist remarks, they might think such things are normal and accurate. On the other hand, if they hear people speaking kindly and tolerantly of those who are from a different racial or ethnic group, they may just grow up to believe people who are different are perfectly okay.

The great French philosopher Emmanuel Levinas said one needs to look into the face of "the other"-- that is, in order to treat a person kindly, especially one who is different, it helps to know that person, not as some statistic or some myth, but as a colleague or a friend or a neighbor. The younger the age that kids have the chance to meet "the other," whether in school or at the playground, the better.

The same is true for adults. If one never meets members of a different race, it becomes very easy to believe the worst. When you know someone from that group, especially if you are able to interact with that person on a regular basis, you are more likely to resist the stereotypes you hear about "them."

That said, there are no easy answers to ending racism. Parents can help by being mindful of what they say-- kids imitate what they hear around them. Kids need the opportunity to meet and interact with those who are from other races, and if they hear racist remarks, they need to have it explained to them that such remarks are foolish and rude. I've been an educator for more than three decades, and I do not believe kids are born prejudiced. Also, once they pick up negative beliefs about an ethnic group, that does not mean things are hopeless. The key is good communication, and refuting or challenging racial stereotypes as much as possible.

It is hard to improve on the above but I suspect the way to deal with racism is to start seeing the 'other' as human not white / Asian / Black etc. It is to start with our common humanity, the tragedies and joys which are the same no matter what race or creed the person is.

Once we begin seeing the other person as human then there is the possibility of change or so it seems to me.

To stop racism, which is possible, you have to start from where it came from. A lot of young children are racist because their parents are or because they hear stereotypes that are not even the least bit true. If people can understand that it doesn't matter what color you are and it matters what type of person you are, this world would be a MUCH better place.

Racism is usually brought on by ignorance and fear. If possible it should be in the neighborhood you live in (if there are mixed cultures.) Have a neighborhood party and invite the families. It can be a backyard BBQ ... the point is that everyone gets to meet everyone else. Some students in schools and colleges have come up with programs where different cultures meet and share their cultures. It's a wonderful thing to share cultures and an adventure. There should be no fear and if one is wise they would surround themselves with as many cultures as they wish.

Each of us can help to put an end to racism by 1) not being racist, 2) not tolerating racist behavior (jokes, etc) around us and 3) raising our children not to be racist. Those who have control of larger forms of communication, such as television or blogs, should try to maintain an atmosphere where racism and hatred is shunned.

It take a long time to change the feelings of a large group of people, but if we each do our part, it will change over time.

I will try to answer the question asked which was ,

How can you reduce racism ?

I think this question is an interesting one.

My first answer to the question is that it is extremely difficult if not impossible to reduce racism.

I think what also adds to the difficulty of reducing racism is different people holding differing opinions to what racism actually is it can be quite subtle.

I performed an internet search to see if I could find any kind of succinct one size fits all definition of the word racism only to conclude that racism can come in many different guises and forms.

It appears that racism is rife all over the world and happening between all different races of people.

Here in the UK where I live there has been discrimination by members of the right towards eastern European economic migrants workers.

These white Polish workers are the same race as us British .

This kind of awful discrimination although not technically racist is no less worse.

I am ready to ask the question once again .

How can you reduce racism ?

This time I will change the question to ,

How can you reduce discrimination?

To get rid of discrimination you need get rid of capitalism.

Capitalism thrives on discrimination in many more ways other than racism alone.

The question to then ask is how do we get rid of capitalism?

The only way to get rid of capitalism is by world revolution.

World revolution is very difficult to achieve while discrimination exists as discrimination divides the worlds working class which is exactly how capitalism survives and prospers.

Workers through out the world are so often so poor that they are easy to exploit by being hired and fired for quick profits to make the rich even richer and powerful.

This especially in times of world recession when employers have such a large pool of desperate ready and waiting workforces to choose from.

Therefore we must all treat one another equally and start to unite.

We must resist the capitalists profit making methodologies and fight them together to save our jobs our schools ,our healthcare ,our pensions and so on.

We must avoid falling into the trap of fighting among ourselves and falling for the right wing Propaganda lies that want us to believe such absolute crap like the immigrants are taking our jobs.

Women still so often get treated as cheap second class workers or they get sexually objectified or are mad to feel inadequate if they don't confirm to the social norms of sexiness or size that the capitalist system throws at them.

Homosexuals, lesbians and the transgendered people are so often labelled as evil or inferior and deserve are open to being persecuted by the church or homophobes.

Mental health is rife.

Prisons especially in the US are crammed with with disadvantaged criminalised people that are often locked up for no real fault of their own.

So many are victims of being brought up in near poverty in apparently the riches country in the world.

Then they are forced to work like slaves and be exploited for profit by the wealthy at the same time robbing workers outside the prisons of valuable employment.

We must fight the same evil government as well as the warmongering British government and do everything we can to support the Afghan working class in their struggle.

We must support all persecuted groups of people such as the Turkish Kurds the Palestinians for example.

The working class of the world whether they are African, Iraqi, Palestinian ,Chinese, Indian, British or the poor downtrodden American working class whatever colour race or creed should all be equal. and united.

Our common enemy is the ruling classes which include the obscenely rich profiteers along with their police forces and their armies.

We must fight the disgusting warmongering governments of the UK and the Us against their cuts that they should pay for.

If they taxed the rich it would pay for the financial crisis they caused instead of us paying with our hospitals our welfare state our universities and our jobs.

These cuts will inevitably lead to more desperate people committing more desperate acts and dividing our societies leading to more discrimination and animosity among the working class.

We must as much as we possible can support and show solidarity with the workers of countries such as Spain, Greece, Portugal, Italy and Ireland as the governments of these countries have completely and utterly betrayed the workers and now want the workers to pay with massive cuts and job losses just like the UK an the US.

And this is why we need to mobilise ourselves in preparation for world revolution and put the decision making into the hands of the the working people.

No government with leaders no rich bastards exploiting the poor.

No illegal bloodthirsty invasions of countries we have no right to be near for the purpose of the already obscenely rich securing oil and even more wealth.

No more can we allow these super rich over producing corporations to seriously damage our planet just for profit.

Biggest solution as told in The Bible would be to realize that God created us all and we are suppose to Love one another.

In the Book of Galatians Pal the Apostle speaks of the Fruits of the Holy Spirit, if we Have the Holy Spirit should we not have the Fruit...

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

I think a way you could help stop it is not to spread it. What I'm saying is that a way to stop it is to not be racist yourself.
