Blown Head gasket. If you have a 3.8 liter v6, it happens commonplace with that engine.

2001 Toyota Camry your daughter has been driving the car for 2 days without antifreeze what damage can occur?

If no liquid in the cooling system, then the heads are probably
warped and the engine is ruined. If running straight water and no
antifreeze, then permanent damage unlikely unless the temps have
been cold enough to freeze the water in the engine (popping the
freeze plugs), or the engine has gotten hot enough to boil off the
water in the cooling system. 50/50 mix of distilled water and
antifreeze is necessary to prevent freezing, boil-over, and cooling
system corrosion.
Asked in Thermostats, Chrysler Sebring
What all has to be taken off if 2001 Chrysler Sebring convertible 2.7 engine to replace the thermostat?

The Thermostat is not located in the conventional position at
top off engine, but rather is at the bottom right side of engine
"copilots side". Follow lower radiator hose to where it attachs to
engine. Probable don't need a new gasket as it is reusably. You
will loose all the antifreeze in the radiater unless you collect
it. Install thermostat, refill with NEW antifreeze from top
radiator hose into radiator and in cooling tank. Bring engine up to
operatiing temperature and wait till fan comes on so that you know
its hot. Make sure tank is full, add as needed. Then open air bleed
screw at top of engine where upper radiator attaches to. Keep open
until all air is out of system. DON"T BURN YOURSELF. Use a short
hose attached to bleed screw and a small bottle to catch
antifreeze. Hose should be at bottom of bottle with some antifeeze
in it. You will see air bubbling out. Once all air is out and there
is a steady stream, close bleed screw. After a few days of driving,
bleed air out again.

What are the substances found in engine coolant?

Engine coolant is a chemical compound. It consists mainly of
water, but water freezes too easily so an antifreeze is added. This
helps prevent the coolant from freezing on winter days and it also
raises the boiling point which is helpful. An antifreeze contains
mainly ethylene, but also has some methanol and propylene. The
water and antifreeze make up around 90% of the coolant. The rest of
it is chemicals to prevent rust and corrosion (redox reactions)
occurring. In other words... Coolant contains: Water - 60%
Antifreeze - 30% Others - 10%
hope this helps
Asked in Tractors and Farm Equipment
What makes antifreeze turn redsome antifreeze is green and some is clear. what is the ingredient that causes it to turn red in color also can you add that ingredient to other antifreezes?

The color of the antifreeze is made that way and no dye is
available. There is no reason to color it afterwards. The reason
for the different colors these days is because they have made it
with different properties to match specific engine manufactuerers
needs. Newer engines now take pink or red for example due to blocks
and cyl heads being made from different metals and they are also
trying to prevent engine failures due to the way earlier coolants
had on engine parts. Mixing colors isn't a good idea but that's
still up for debate by many people.Go with what the owners manual
states.
Asked in Oil and Oil Filters, Radiators, Chevy Suburban, Oldsmobile Silhouette
Why would there be oil in your radiator?

Odds are you have blown a head gasket and the antifreeze and oil
flow share the same gasket. As the gasket wears, the antifreeze
mixes into the oil and vice versa! I suggest replacing your current
antifreeze and do a full flush. Test it for a few days and test if
you have oil again. A tell tell sign of a blown head gasket is
black smoke (burning oil) or white smoke (burning antifreeze )
coming out the exhaust.

How do you ween a 17 month old off a bottle?

you simply take it away. They will cry for a few days and want
the bottle, but you have to be strong and just live out the crying.
My daughter was off the bottle at age 1. She cried for it for maybe
2 days, then it was over. It was hard on me, but.. She is only 20
months old now and she drinks with a straw. So don't be
discouraged.. you can do it!

How do you plug your car in for winter?

Purchase a heater from an auto store.
Install it in the hose line that goes to the Engine Block.
Instructions included.
The Fluid will be warm and circulate through the Engine Block
.
They also have block heaters that plug into the engine.
A good tune up, Good Battery, Good Antifreeze will also
work.
If you live Way North, there is a solar panel that you plug into
your cig lighter that will keep your battery charged if you do not
start your car for a few days.
