I just got my f-150 fixed with that same problem. I replaced the spark plugs and spark plug wires. The blinking check engine light is caused by excess gas coating the catalytic converter sensor. If left unfixed this will cause permanent damage to the catalytic converter.

my check engine light stays on and the o/d light blinks....what could this mean?
Have vehicle scanned to determine the problem
Numerous things could cause this problem. Most of them are nothing to worry about. As long as you are talking about the AMBER "check engine light"... Since it blinks, I would check with a Dealer first. The blinking indicates a possible future problem. Once it is steady, the car has identified a problem. One thing to check... Make sure the gas cap is tight!!! No idea how the car runs or idles, so difficult to figure...bring it in.
The check engine light comes on and stays on when a problem is detected by the self diagnosis system of your vehicle. Generally, a check engine light is lit when there is a problem in the emissions or somthing that is affecting the effectiveness of the emissions.
If your check engine light stays on , get it scanned for trouble codes to diagnose and then repair the problem - a malfunction has been detected that is causing a problem with your emission control system , and in your case is also causing your engine to run rough
i just changed my batterys out on my truck now my check engine light is on?
If the check engine light stays on for the Nissan Pulsar n16, you would need to check the engine in order to clear codes. You can take the car for service and the problem will be diagnosed and restored to normalcy.
The check engine light stays on when the engine computer has detected a malfunction and set a trouble code.
The check engine light (service engine soon) comes on and stays on when a problem is detected by the self diagnosis system of your vehicle.
If it blinks 6 times and then goes out after starting the engine. It means the system is functioning normally. If it stays lit or does not come up get it serviced. The air bag won't deploy in a crash.
The engine computer turns it on at start up for a bulb check. If it stays on the computer has detected a malfunction and set a code.
