Social Security Disability Benefits are available from the American Government. In Canada, they are called Canadian Disability Pension Plan Benefits.
In most cases, people will not be able to receive social security disability if they move overseas. However, each case is different and there is no way to know until the Social Security Administration makes a decision.

When you buy a home and want security protection to go with it, there are many financial institutions provide the security and the protection you need. The Bank of Montreal, TD Canada Trust and CIBC all provide disability insurance.
if you are a Canadian and you live in Canada at least 6 months out of a year, absolutely!!!!
If you are referring to Short-Term Disability Insurance, it is taxable if your employer made the contribution, and not taxable if you made the contribution. This is because it is treated as a taxable benefit from employment that you have not been taxed on already. Please let me know if you are referring to something else. Thanks, Ragu HandyTax (Disability Tax Credit Consultants)

In Ontario, there is the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP). Canada also offers programs at the federal level, like CPP disability (early retirement for those with government pensions), EI disability (employment insurance for loss of work due to disability), and the Disability Tax Credit (an yearly supplement on you personal income tax returns. You can continue to receive disability benefits for as long as: (1) you are looking for work; and, (2) your legal residence is in New York state, providing you meet all the other eligibility criteria. You cannot receive unemployment benefits from New York State during weeks when you are living in Canada.
Canada's Revenue Agency has a long term disability insurance for disabled individuals. The amount received from this does, in fact, count as taxable income.
Confederation was and is a benefit to all regions of Canada.
