Don't just replace parts until the problem goes away! Remove the serpentine belt and check the individual pulley's and idler wheels. Often an idler pulley will make noise after it has been disturbed. This has nothing to do with the method of installation, it just means that the pulley was old and ready to give you problems anyway. With the belt off, check each individual component by turning it manually. Give each a spin to see if they make any noises that sound remotely like what you have been hearing.
