If they wrote it on a police report them it is the same as lying on the stand. * They could be charged with filing a false police report or in the case of testimony in the court charged with perjury and obstruction of justice, depending upon what is actually the truth. In addition if the charges made were indeed false, the person who was accused may have the option of pursuing civil action.
