If a rear axle is bent will it make a knocking noise while driving the car?
The knocking that you are describing reminds me of a stuck universal joint. A bent axle usually wears tires out very fast more than making noise.
is this a 4x4 solid front axle.your front axle shaft u-joints may be bad.get under the front axle between the wheel and the end of your axle tube grab the u-joint and see if it has play.this is most common knocking on solid axle trucks
A single knocking noise when braking or turning can be caused by a faulty axle. The cost of replacement is usually around 1,000 dollars.
Worn front axle and/or front end component.
One or both of you're drive axle bearings is dry
What is the cause of a knocking from the front end of a 2000 Pontiac grand prix when driving at low speeds?
My 2000 Grand Prix would have a low-speed knocking noise coming from the drivers side as the CV axle was failing. The loss of lubrication in the CV Boots allows the joint to make a knocking/tapping sound at a low speed. If the knocking is coming from the engine compartment, then it could be an entirely different problem.
99 cavalier-- grinding-knocking while driving while jacked up no grinding-knocking but wheels don't turn evenly could this be the axle bearings or something in the transmission or transfer case?
check CV joints, if bad replace shafts and joints assembly
The usual symptoms are a knocking or loud clicking noise from the front of the car when cornering. The noise is not normally noticeable when driving straight. Check the CV boot (the rubber cover round the drive shaft nearest to the front wheel) this will very often be the cause of the failure if it is split.
What could be causing a tick while driving but the tick stops when brake is applied or car is in park?
it really is a vague discription. do you feel the tick in the gas pedal? does it sound like its coming from near your tires... or your engine? most likely it is a wheel bearing or bushing. if it becomes a knocking noise when you go around corners it is your constant velocity axle i am assuming your vehicle is a front wheel drive.
1990 geo prizm It was making a grinding a noise and then a knocking noise The mechanic said that the axle was broke Both sides got fixed and now its still making the same noise but worse?
i would get the transmission checked it sounds like your torque converter
sounds like a bad cv axle
check rubber bushes on ends of rear shocks or the main axle bushes - these can knock when driving if they are badly worn
I've been told that this is usually the cv boot and that it is easier to buy an axle from an auto parts place and have a mechanic replace the axle.
The axle shaft is retained from the inside with a horseshoe looking clip. The axle shaft is retained from the inside with a horseshoe looking clip.
If you take the wheel off, and free spin the axle. Listen for noise, any crunchy or grinding sounds from the bearing are bad. Helps if you get astethoscope for this one, lessens the chances of you hearing something else making noise. Sometimes if the bearings are about to shear off the axle you will hear them while driving down the road. This is generally bad as it means that either one or more bearings… Read More
On a 2000 Chevy Malibu LS why is there a knocking noise when you press press fimly on your brakes and sometimes when you make a left turn?
If your feeling that knocking noise in your foot that's most likely going to be your ABS (anti-lock braking system) kicking in. It usually happens alot in the winter to us in the North East, so pretty normal as for the turn..... i would look into an axle being bad do to the skipping of the teeth that it rides in
The axle of your car's wheels while you are driving.
A bad cv joint/axle shaft on the front will make a clicking noise when turning.
What would cause a 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport to make a knocking noise from the passenger front wheel when in reverse and turning left?
C/V joint needs replaced. Check the right (pass side) drive axle joints. If the joint boots (plastic folded like an accordion) have cracks in them, the water and dirt gets in and destroys the joint causing a knock..especially when turning. Check the transmission mount also since this will also cause a knock when putting it in reverse but won't make a noise while driving. As a sidenote, if the joint is worn out, check your… Read More
Did anyone else had their rear axle snap causing the rear right wheel to detach from vehicle while driving?
Oh I did years ago while driving a 1959 VW. My wheel passed me.
Bad CV (continuous velocity) joint on your front axle. Could be either side. Shop around this reapar can cost as little as $100 and as much as $1000. Larger towns have shops tthat specialize in CV axle replacement and tend to charge the least as well as do the best work.
How do you fix the clicking noise while turning on a 2001 KIA Sephia Is it the CV boot How easy to fix?
It is the CV joint within the axle. I would replace it with the entire axle assembly. To save money I would buy a good used axle then bring it to a local garage.
Your accord makes a noise when turning right and is now making the same noise when driving straight?
I went through the same thing. Take it to a break place its more then likely your axle. Or u need you brake changed! ALso it could be the cv joints.
My 1995 Monte Carlo is making a noise in the axle but it isn't the axle when you give it the gas it sounds like the axle but have changed it could someone tell me what it would be?
It could be worn spider gears or ring and pinion,. Did you change the bearing while you had the axle out? Did you consider it might be the other side? sounds tend to carry like that. How about U-JOINT?
Is it a "knocking" noise? or more of a..."grinding" noise? Does it sort of hum at higher speeds? If so, assuming you have the aluminum Dana 44 axle (which SHOULD be in your vehicle), then water or condensation probably got in to the rear end. This pits the bearings and makes a lot of noise. Not much of a concern, as long as you don't mind the noise. IF IT IS A POPPING, more like… Read More
Your car will violently fall to the ground and will drag the frame until it comes to a complete stop.
It is not at all OK to drie with your front axle bent. While driving at high speeds, it may come loose and that ride might be your last.
What is the clicking and scraping noise you hear when you make hard right or left turns in a geo prism?
I would suggest have it checked with a "trusted mechanic".,but I would wildly guess it could be your CV-Boots worn out-or just need to replace the driving axle- which the noise coming from...hope this help!!
Had this same issue in a '93 Probe. Replaced the CV axle and stabilizer links to no avail. While replacing the steering bushings I noticed my rim was somewhat warped, so I had replaced with a spare. Not sure if it was the wheel or the bushings but the sound disappeared! And man was it ever a frustrating noise!
Your rear tire could be making a knocking sound for a number of reasons. You could have a damaged strut or axle that needs replacing.?æ
Usually there is some kind of debree or dirt in the system clogging a valve. The fluid has to in or out of the cylinder. Its either the inlet or return valve not letting the fluid flow freely it is being forced thru usually causing the noise. Try flushing the system or replacing the rack. I had this problem. Found out it was the Axle Shaft on the drivers side that was going out. After… Read More
Bearings misassembled, tire nosie, brake noise, noise in axle, noise in transmission, etc.
If the noise is a clicking sound, chances are the CV shaft (or axle shaft) is bad. It supplies power from the trans axle to the wheel.
Have a BMW 318 i 1996 and have a rear knocking noide appears to be coming from area around the wheel arch Have had the tire off and cant find anything loose etc Nothing loose in boot either.?
Have the Constant Velocity (CV) joint on the axle inspected for wear. That's probably what causes this type of noise.
if clicking is in turns than a front axle needs replaced. if turning right it is your left axle-- turning left it is your right axle!! the clicking is the cv joint in axle.
The car will jerk, feel like there is something heavy slowing it down and then it will not move. It happened to me today and you will know it when it happens. The car will not be able to move until that axle is fixed (which is a cheap fix)
Sounds like worn out front wheel drive CV (constant velocity) joints. A CV joint is a flexible coupling attached to a drive axle. A front wheel drive car will have 4 of these. (2 per side)If they are making noise they probably need to be replaced. If it is a clunking/knocking sound it could be a bad CV joint. If it is a whining sound the power steering fluid may need to be flushed, or… Read More
You would probably lose control of the vehicle and crash. It wouldn't be pretty.
If the knocking is when you hit a bump it could be your axle hitting the frame, or you need shorter swaybar links.Make sure your pinon angle is correct or you will were out your drive saft u-junts.
A 97 Ford Explorer with all wheel drive has a noise up front while engaged in gear is this a transfer case problem?
I had a 2000 Explorer with a grinding noise coming from the front . It my case, it was the axle bearing assembly on both sides. They are around 200 per side to purchase.
It depends on where the grinding noise is coming from. Most of the time the grinding is coming from the brakes and the brake pads need to be replaced. If they've been grinding for a while, the rotors will need to be resurfaced or replaced. Other possibilities for grinding are worn axle bearings, or a problem with the clutch. If the clutch goes out, there will be a grinding noise when you try to shift… Read More
A bad axle will cause that sound
Check the axle; it may be leaking/out of grease.
Your wheel isn't supposed to make noise, so you are ether low on brake fluid or you'll need new brake pad's, its recommended to get your vehicle checked as soon as possible. What type of noise? A scraping could be the dust shield on the brakes rubbing the rotor. The mud guard may have come loose and rubbing the tire, Wheel bearing, axle. Lots of things.
A clicking noise, when accelerating, can be caused by a worn CV joint. The CV joint can cause the axle to collapse when it breaks.
you re rear axle i just replaced mine it probably the front pinion bearing
Check the drive axle for a broken and leaking boot or bad CV joint.
Your 94 Eddie Bauer bronco when you turn the key to ON it makes a noise from about the rear axle is the fuel pump going?
If it is a whining noise it is the fuel pump.
What is the cause of a grinding noise that appears in the right front wheel of a vehicle after hitting a kerb?
have it checked you could have bent the axle and the noise would be the bearing
What causes a knocking sound coming from the front drivers side axle area. I replaced the axle. That didnt work. It knocks as I drive. When I turn and when I go straight.?
Change you top strut nut.
Probably the U-joints.
