Two methods

1. Convert the linear feet to yards and then multiply .

Hence 8ft = 2 2/3 yds. 2 2/3 X 2 2/3 = 8/3 X 8/3 - 64/9 = 7 1/9 sq. yds or 7.111... sq yds/

2. Note that the are 9 sq ft in 1 sq yds.

So 8ft X 8ft = 64 sq.ft.

Divide by '9'

64/9 = 7 1/9 sq. yds = 7.111... sq yds/ As before.

thus the area of a 8ftX8ft rectangle is 64 square feet

3 square feet is equal to one square yard, thus we must divide 64 by three
