∙ 12y agoIt really depends on what type of complaint and your location. Police are not required to assist with all types of complaints. Your best bet is to look up the laws and ordinances for your specific district. If it is something that it appears they should be covering, you can and speak to the sergeant, captain, or shift commander. If they still say they cannot help you, then you can always ask them where you should turn from there. They will be familiar with the ordinances for your area, and should be a good resource.
Additional: If the "complaint" has to do with a civil (i.e.: non-criminal) matter the police cannot help you. Police can, legally, only enforce criminal law.
